SOLIDARITY IS FORCE OF HOPE AND OVERCOMES SUFFERING

The day 22 December 2020, our country was hit by a big storm. Many homes and families have been hit, they have lost everything: food, news, mobile... Unfortunately two people were carried away by the waters, but thank God the majority did not lose their lives. This situation, which could lead to discouragement, instead it became an opportunity to get to know and involve a great solidarity movement that has overcome suffering by bringing us new hope for the new year that begins. Already on the first day after the storm they asked us to become a place of support for the victims by receiving food donations, cleaning materials and clothing for those affected. We immediately accepted the request and from 23 al 31 December, respecting the needs of remoteness and hygiene due to COVID 19, our house has experienced a great movement. Many people from near and far have helped us and we were able to deliver in the day 31 December water, food, shoes, clothes and cleaning materials to sixty families we visited and saw that they lost everything. We made a list for these families and they all came after more than hard work 30 local volunteers who helped us a lot. We are now on vacation here in Brazil, the sisters of our Delegation are all together here at Casa San Giuseppe, but immediately after this stop we will resume visits to the families and we will try to keep this important help to many people who, in addition to losing everything, have been victims of COVID (only in our country more than died 20 people) and they don't have much prospect of work in the coming months. The video that comes with this text is a thank you to the brothers and sisters who have made themselves available to help us at this end of the year: people from our communities, of our Catholic Church, people of other religions, people sensitive to suffering. After having lived this experience we can affirm that solidarity is truly a force of hope and overcomes the suffering of difficult times.
