Who we are

Dimesse Sisters
Daughters of Mary Immaculate

HISTORY
The Institute's foundation took place in Vicenza in 1579, in a moment of "springtime" of the Church, in the lively atmosphere of a renewal that characterized the diocese after the Council of Trent, to which the founding father Antonio Pagani had actively participated in the last session. The new religious family was to enter and operate in the reality of a Church, under the guidance of Bishops Matthew and Michele Priuli and very active collaboration of father Pagani, He was implementing a serious program of catechesis and works of charity, in attention to young people and those most in need, especially to the sick and those in prison. Inside a vast spiritual movement that was causing the Pagani, soon he formed a core of people who want to follow the Lord with a sober lifestyle, fraternal and community, dedicated to contemplation and open along the apostolate. This project represented a novelty in those days in which religious communities could not engage in apostolic activities, but rather bind to a rule of strict enclosure.
DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE
The Company's Dimesse extends soon, according to the social reality of the time, throughout the territory of the Republic of Venice, bringing a breath of new spiritual life, by a witness that exceeds the limits of local history. The foundations are made all after the death of the Founder, but he had already shown the way to the first Dimesse women as mother Deianira and Angela Valmarana, Catherine Fiorini, Diana Crivelli .... They followed during the seventeenth century foundations in Verona, Thiene and Schio(We), Bergamo, Feltre (with), Padua and Udine .... All communities were united by a bond of spiritual, but with their legal autonomy. The early nineteenth century the Society of Dimesse undergoes the Napoleonic suppression of almost all communities except for Padova homes and Udine who present with a face "secular" dedicated to education, allowing them to continue the educational work in these two cities. The seed planted four centuries earlier by his father Pagani, burgeoning with new energy as Dimesse welcomed the wind of the Spirit of Vatican II that leads to a new missionary outreach of the Church and the Institutes of Consecrated Life. In 1965 start the first missionary to Kenya, in 1976 sending sisters in Brazil and 1984 in India.
